148th Anniversary of Dades Battle
December 31,2010 - January 02, 2011

Pioneer Farm Museum, FL
February 06 - February 07, 2010

I missed this event last year and I didnt want to. A tree fell on my porch and I had to go deal with it.On display are tools of the Florida Pioneer Man, showing how he built his house, made his furniture, plowed his fields, harvested his crops, and did his leather-work and blacksmithing. Also the Trilby Depot, the Lacoochee one room schoolhouse, is a 100 year old building. Methodist Church from Enterprise and the two story 1864 restored Overstreet House.

On display in the Overstreet House and kitchen addition, are furnishings which reflect the Florida Pioneer Woman's everyday experiences - churning butter, cooking on a wood-burning stove, spinning, weaving, battling and boiling the family wash and doing her household tasks with simple primitive equipment.

new one for me but looks like fun. Mygrandfather had a turpentine still in 19th century Florida and my dad was born in Sopchopy,FL so we are old time Floridians.Perhaps someone here will have one of those adorable miniature hay balers. I just love those silly things. more info : http://www.pioneerfloridamuseum.org/index.php

New Harmony IN Childrens Festival
April 19 - April 24, 2010

This event is mostly demonstrations for school children so no selling but the town is well worth seeing with much of interest to a reenactor . When you get off the interstate you will see these very flat fields full of corn and you will think 'hmm is this the right exit ?' Keep going and you will get to this jewel box of a town .The historic site consists of many Harmonist (1814-1824) and later 19th century buildings. Gardens and a reconstructed Harmonist Labyrinth can be seen in town. Although there are still many Harmonist buildings, much of Historic New Harmony's collection relates to the Owen community and later periods of New Harmony history. Some archival material and artifacts relate to the Harmony Society.

Time Periods from which buildings/artifacts originate:

1814-1824 Harmonist
1825-1827 Owen-Maclure
1827-1860 Post Communal

The most relevant German-American collections are:

Maximilian-Bodmer Print Collection, 1832-34 (gotta see to appreciate)
Harmony Society reproduction furniture and pottery, 1814-1824
Jacob Maentel (1778-1863) drawings and paintings (another do not miss)

Historic Cold Springs Village, Cape May, NJ
June 05 - June 06, 2010

Historic Cold Spring Village is an Early American open-air living history museum. The Village brings to life the day-to-day activities of villagers living in South Jersey during the “age of homespun.” (1790-1840). Visitors can make a personal connection between the past and present through the interactive, educational, and hands-on family activities. Take a stroll along our 22 acres of shaded lanes, enjoy the gardens and observe the farm where heritage crops are grown; visit twenty-six restored antique buildings housing historically-clothed interpreters, who educate and entertain visitors about the lifestyles, issues, trades and crafts of yesteryear.  Children enjoy playing at the activity area where they take part in a variety of projects such as trying on costumes, participating in hands-on crafts and playing games.

This is a Celtic Festival. Never been to NJ for an event and Im really looking forward to it. Their web site shows a beautiful site surrounded by wonderful beaches and historic buildings. Im coming here courtesy of Rosie O'Neal Greenhow , a lovley reenactor whom I met in Florida. Thanks Rosie.

There is a banjo and fiddle and harmonica contest on the last weekend with some amazing musicians. Civil War encampment has a very good demonstration and I will be glad to see my friends in the Black History cabin. Excellent display. Erie County Fair/Americas Fair, N Y
August 10 - August 21, 2011

Second largest Fair in the Nation with phenomenal entertainment. I am over by the Historical Building. Joey Hall of Father Son and Friends will be back to play the pipes and leatherwork. He looks a little different as evidenced by this picture taken of us last year. The erudite and personable Roger Abrahamson will be back to footlathe as well as the happy broommaker John and Regina the quiet but knowledgeable potter. What fun we have ! Paul Schroeder takes good care of us along with Dee who is too humble to tell anyone that she donated to my town in Arkansas after our tornado tore up a third of the county. Her donation was to get milk to the children and it did just that.Bless you Dee. Cant wait to hug your neck.My necklace has not left my neck BTW .John B. will be back amazing everyone by pontificating about the history and making of marbled paper and the much loved Nick will be back to talk about tools,(Try and stump him about a tool, you'll lose). Its just the best demonstrators I know and if you dont come you will be sorry.
